About Us

The story of the Minority Breastfeeding Alliance is rich with people who have donated their time, money and energies. In January 2003, a single mother decided to tackle the impossible. With very little medical information available to minorities especially, in regards to breastfeeding and its natural ways to nourish newborns, she began locating minority families who breastfed after pregnancy.

MBA is a non-profit organization designed to be a place of educational resource for minority families in the surrounding area of Philadelphia . Individuals can visit, call or email about breastfeeding and childcare. In the near future they plan to educate the public through the means of radio advertisement, with weekly on air health discussions related to breastfeeding and childcare in addition to monthly newsletters targeted to minority audiences. Through fundraising and donations, the medical community will have a better understanding of the potential future for a healthier start for infants... and it is hopeful.

In the near future, MBA will initiate a project/fundraiser that will benefit the building of a resource center. The center will serve as a “go to” place for those families who need one on one attention while breastfeeding, The center will continue to provide free breast pumps, nursing pads and bras, while adding services such as proper breastfeeding techniques and frequent weight checks for those infants who are breastfed to ensure proper feeding. In addition, we will develope a curriculum of classes to introduce alternate infant feeding procedures and prepare all healthcare professionals who work in obstetrics, gynecology and pediatrics to take the lactation certification exam.
